Twenty-four states have legalized medical marijuana and a handful of states have legalized recreational marijuana. The challenge is that you will never find the drug in a pharmacy system, nor do our systems screen for any interactions. To add to the confusion, since marijuana is still a schedule 1 controlled substance there is little information about drug interactions. Because of marijuana’s scheduling, very limited research can be done on the drug. Even in preparing this presentation, I had to use comparable drugs to find any interaction information.
As marijuana becomes legalized in Canada and the Netherlands, pay close attention to their policy followups for more clinical guidelines.
